Our Quarry

Providing the foundations for development.

Perched on the Toowoomba escarpment, the Harlaxton Quarry is a deposit of super hard igneous (volcanic) basalt rock.

Basalt is perfect for railway ballast, road base and high strength concrete for roads, bridges, pathway pavement, buildings and runways.

Formerly owned and operated by Queensland Railways, Harlaxton Quarry has been a part of the Frost family business - Quarry Products - since 1973. The quarry footprint (the approved operating area) is surrounded by buffer land that we have incrementally purchased by Quarry Products.

  • The operation is approved by Toowoomba Regional Council and State government departments.
  • The quarry is regulated by the mines department, D.E.S. & the Toowoomba Council
  • Our environmental and operational compliance are regulated by the Queensland state Department of Environment and Science DES.
  • The quarry holds contemporary permits and current approvals.
  • A 1-hectare addition to the quarry footprint was approved by DES and Council in Jan 2021.
  • The quarry footprint is now 24 hectares.

Quarry development

A 1-hectare addition to the quarry footprint was approved by DES and Council in Jan 2021. The quarry footprint (operational area) is now 24 hectares.

The design synthesises our detailed knowledge of the land and its geology, with the advice of our expert, highly experienced consultants, and the feedback shared by our neighbours. Our comprehensive development application considered all potential impacts, along with our existing and proposed management measures. It demonstrated the quarry’s compliance with industry best practice and regulatory standards.

The equipment on the quarry remains in place and there are no changes to production volumes or associated heavy vehicle traffic, existing operation, staff numbers or hours of operation. The area into which the quarry will expand is setback from homes to the quarry’s south and west.

Our expert consultants prepared reports on noise, environment, air quality, traffic, stormwater management and visual amenity. Toowoomba Regional Council and the State government approved our application for this modest further development.
